Mayada:Daughter of Iraq...By Jean Sasson

Thats the last book i read a few days back and i must say the plot engrossed me so much that i completed the book in no time..well i must say calling it a "plot" would belittle the heart-wrenching story of Mayada...who survived the gallows of baladiyat prison and the gruesome torture meted out to her and several other unassuming Iraqi women and the true grit which brought her alive out of the dark gallows...its higly recommended reading....my friend says reading is so soothing..it takes you to the world of fantasy...well i must say that after reading Mayada's escapades...our life looks like fantasy coz for those Iraqi women it was plain and simple hell on earth ...divine justice probably is the word which often came to me as i was reading the book...the way Saddam met his Nemesis...could be nothing short of divine justice!!!!
Read it whenever you lay your hands on it!!

hey nice to c u blogging...

I've read this book "The Princess" by Jean Sasson. That too talks about the horrible life of a Saudi Princess.

the only sin they seem to commited is being born a "Woman"

well..i dont see much diference between what the "super power" did to Iraq and what Saddam did to Iraq...essentially in both the cases it was the common man who had to give up his right to live..which i thing is absolutely pathetic!!

Hi! This is Jean Sasson and I'm very pleased that you read my book about Mayada Al-Askari. It was tragic in so many ways and the plight of the shadow women brought tears to the eyes of this author!
